Wish we could just proclaim a worldwide month-long moratorium on trying to be *interesting*. What if we all had permission to be as “boring” as possible (to everyone but ourselves)? How many brand new, authentically interesting things could get made?
This is a really helpful reminder. I dread doing newsletters because I'm bored of trying to be interesting to the void. I should have never found out I am an Aquarian because they're always portrayed as eccentrics who nobody gets. I don't even believe in astrology! LOL.
Thank you!! I especially love this because one of the reasons I gave myself as an undergrad for choosing pre-med was “I’ll never get bored”. (Needless to say there have been many opportunities since to question that reasoning…)
What if we focused on what made us come alive and let the rest fall in place- others can like, hate or be bored. We had permission to be bored or uninterested in all the things we are told we “should”. That would be a radical vision. Granted I am trying to do this and am successful a fraction of the time - human work in progress in a system that doesn’t fit.
Ooooooh this title!! I have not read your article yet. But the title already hits. My soul is saying this for a year now. I was just thinking about writing about it here (I’m new on Substack) but did not have words for it.
